family laW

Family Law usually involves the break up of the family unit, which leads to the division of marital assets, custody and access issues involving children, support for children, and alimony payments.

Family law also involves people who are not married but who have lived together in a common law relationship, and have accumulated assets together, and who have children.

Another aspect of family law involves applications by the state, to get temporary custody of the children away from their parents, where the state feels the children are neglected or in danger. Sometimes, the state will seek guardianship of the children, i.e. remove the children from the parents permanently, and put them up for adoption.
